"Not only did the MHS Speech & Debate Team Members host one of the best State Tournaments ever," said Coach Melissa Donahue, "but they proved themselves in their competition rounds as well!"
From March 5 to 7, Mason High School had the privilege of hosting the 82nd OHSSL Speech and Debate State Tournament, with over 1,200 students, coaches, judges, and parents in attendance.
Students competed in 13 total events, including Original Oratory, Oratorical Interpretation, Prose/Poetry, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, US or International Extemporaneous Speaking, Student Congress, Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, or Public Forum Debate.
The following MHS students earned high marks in their events:
Grace Eichler - 3rd place in the state in Prose-Poetry
Christina Westley - Semi-finalist in Original Oratory
Anjana Venkatesan - Semi-finalist in Impromptu Speaking
Joyce Li - Quarter-finalist in Original Oratory
Kashi Goyal & Kelly Loughead - Quarter-finalists in Public Forum Debate
Suprasanna Mishra & Sourav Dey - Octa-finalists in Public Forum Debate
Kevin Zhang - Octa-finalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate
